Children Should Never be Hit

Whether parents should hit their children or not is a controversial issue that causes a lot of arguments among people in all societies. Many people are convinced that parents should hit their children believing that this is important in the process of raising children. However, Punishment is not only ineffective in the long run, it is also clearly unjust. Parents should never hit their children for many reasons. Hitting harms children physically, emotionally and psychologically. Children are human; they feel insecure and useless when they are beaten. When parents hit them, children would feel unwanted. Moreover, hitting might cause serious physical problems as children's bodies are small and fragile relative to punishing adults. In addition, children will never feel the love and warmth of their family if they are hit. Furthermore, childhood is a very special stage of life. As children grow, images of their childhood will not fade away and they will never ever forget the image of their parents hitting them. Also, hitting children teaches them to become hitters themselves. Because children learn through parental modeling, physical punishment gives the message that hitting is an appropriate way to express feelings and to solve problems.
